The Project:
4th edition of the Short Animation Film Festival of Neufchâteau.
Where:
In Neufchâteau, Belgium, in the heart of the Belgian Ardenne.
Background:
In 2005, when the recently opened Cultural Centre of Neufchâteau (Est. 2004) was looking for original ideas with which to complement its agenda of activities, it was decided to set up a short animation film festival.
For this project to take off, the help of a young animation film director* and the support of a number of partners was needed:
- The Neufchâteau town council;
- Paradise Events, asbl;
- The Council Library;
- Les Arts Maniaques;
- La Maison du Tourisme du Pays de la Forêt d'Anlier.
Convinced of the positive image such a festival would give to the region and, in particular, to the Neufchâteau town council – and considering that there was no equivalent in the Province of Luxembourg – the partners all agreed to lend their support and skills to ensure that the Short Animation Film Festival would be a continued success.
The positive experiences of having successfully organised the festival in the three previous years (with about 600 visitors of all ages coming every year), have encouraged the Cultural Centre of Neufchâteau and its partners to make it a yearly event.
*After finishing school at the Royal Athenaeum of Neufchâteau, Philippe Nickels attended the animation film school of La Cambre, Brussels, Belgium, between 1997 and 2002. www.philippenickels.com
